Summit Themes and Aims

The International Young Professionals Summit will address each of the following action areas within the broader Summit themes of poverty, sustainability, environment and social capital:

• housing and infrastructure

• food and agriculture

• fresh water

• population and health

• transport

• information and communication technologies

• aid and trade

• education

• appropriate technology

The primary objective of the Summit is to work toward solutions to specific problems across the four themes, nine action areas and six regions. This will be achieved by:

• the exchange of ideas and information between delegates during workshops and informal discussions, including showcasing models of good practice and successful strategies

• the formation of working relationships between delegates and the organisations they represent

• initiating development activities arising from the Summit

• presentation of findings from the Summit to the 2001 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and other relevant government, business and community sector gatherings
