FAQ

This page will be regularly updated with the most common questions asked about the IYPS.

When and where is the IYPS?

The IYPS will be held at Griffith University, in Brisbane, Queensland Australia.
It will start on Monday 29 November 2004, and run until Friday 3 December.

How much is the registration?

Registration for Ordinary Members of the IYPF is AUD$600
Registration for Associate Members and non-members of the IYPF is AUD$700

What is the difference between the IYPS and the IYPF?

The IYPF (International Young Professionals FOUNDATION) is the coordinating body of the IYPS (International Young Professionals SUMMIT). The IYPF was launched at the 2001 Summit, as a means of developing and continuing networks and providing support to young professionals.

Am I a 'young professional'?

The Foundation considers the term 'Young' for the purpose of involvement with the Foundation as being those people in the emerging or developing stages of their careers.

'Professional' refers to those people who have a professional attitude and a capacity through their skills and knowledge to be positive global changemakers, and who are taking the responsibility to better develop themselves to a level where they can actively contribute to the needs of their society, both locally and globally, in a professional manner.

What is an Ordinary Member? Am I one?

In the IYPF's legal structure (a public company limited by guarantee), Ordinary Members are the owners of the organisation (essentially shareholders). They have rights to vote on issues, nominate themselves for the Board of Directors, participate in all activities of the Foundation, and receive discounted registration to some IYPF events.

In order to be an Ordinary Member eligible for the IYPS discount, you must have fully paid your membership dues by June 30 2004. You will have received an invitation to attend the IYPS explaining the Ordinary member registration process.

Everyone who attends the IYPS will be granted Ordinary Member status for one year. For more information on IYPF Membership, download the Membership kit at right.

If you are unsure of your membership status, you can clarify this by emailing [email protected]

I am unable to download forms from the website, what can I do?

Forms are available at www.iyps.org in both PDF and Word (doc) formats. Make sure you have Adobe Reader (www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html) so you can read the PDF files, and try saving the file to your computer before you open it. If you still cannot download a form you require, e-mail [email protected] and we will e-mail them through to you. We cannot fax or post the forms to you.

Can I pay on arrival at the Summit?

We have had several requests from delegates to pay their registration fee on arrival. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to accept payment 'on the ground'.

There are several reasons for this:
  • We need your registration payment as confirmation that you will be attending. Until this is received, we cannot book your accommodation or food, as this will require us to make pre-payments for you. As IYPF is a not-for-profit company with limited resources, we cannot afford this upfront outlay.
  • We are obliged by our Department of Immigration to confirm that we have received registration payment from delegates before they are able to confirm that you will be attending a conference (which will give you a greater chance of obtaining a visa)
  • We will not have facilities to arrange payment/receipts etc on the ground.

What are the details I need to make a direct deposit to IYPF?

Our bank account details are as follows:
Bank: Westpac Banking Corporation
Account Name: International Young Professionals Foundation
Branch details: cnr of Brisbane and Bell Sts, Ipswich 4305
BSB No: 034-189
Account Number: 192397
Swift/routing code for international deposits: WPACAU2S

Please ensure your name is the reference detail, and that you notify us of the date it is transferred, so we can match it in our accounts.

When will I receive a letter of invitation for visa purposes?

Those delegates who have fully paid their registration will soon be sent a letter of invitation electronically so they can start applying for your visa. A hard copy signed document will be sent to all non-ETA delegates for their application to the Australian posts.
